Who We Are & Why We’re Here
HerGreenPlanet is a grassroots organization based in Washington, D.C., committed to environmental action and women’s empowerment. We believe that creating a cleaner, greener, and more equitable world starts right in our own neighborhoods.
HerGreenPlanet brings together volunteers from all walks of life to take part in monthly street cleanups, educational events, and community-building initiatives across the city. Our work centers on the idea that environmental stewardship and gender equity go hand in hand—and that everyday actions can lead to meaningful change.
Whether you're here to join a cleanup, attend a sustainability workshop, or connect with others who care deeply about the planet and its people—you’re in the right place. Welcome to the movement.
Meet the Founder
Hi, I’m Megan Adam—founder of HerGreenPlanet, environmental advocate, and proud community-builder. I’m 23 years old, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, and a graduate of CU Boulder, where I studied environmental studies and planning. I moved to Washington, DC in 2024 full of hope—but after the election, I felt overwhelmed and disheartened by the direction of our country.
Instead of letting that feeling win, I turned it into action. I started HerGreenPlanet to create something positive, local, and real: a space where women and young people could come together to support each other and care for the planet—starting right here in our own neighborhoods.
What began as small, DIY street cleanups has grown into a vibrant grassroots group focused on sustainability, education, and community empowerment. HerGreenPlanet is about showing up for the Earth and for each other—and I’m so glad you found us.
